Boulevard Bluffs neighborhood is one of the nicer residential areas in Everett, if not the nicest in terms of beautiful views of Possession Sound and stately homes. The neighborhood consists of homes along the bay and businesses to the south, with the biggest being the Boeing ESRC complex the former Intermec headquarters with its sprawling, forested campus.
Edgewater Park is a small, 1. Take a spin down Taylor Drive along the north end of the neighborhood to look at some of the huge homes.
The neighborhood is primarily residential in nature, with over families making their homes here. The homes here are diverse in their design styles and value with construction eras spanning from the early s to the early s. HSC has a plethora of private and public parks within easy reach including Harborview Park near the sound. This 8-acre recreation area features a number of trails as well as picnic table to sit at and enjoy the spectacular view. There is also Howarth Park in the upper east corner.
The park is 28 acres in size and features picnic tables, a playground, restrooms, a tennis court, as well as trails, and a nice viewpoint. Port Gardner neighborhood is located south of downtown Everett.
The neighborhood is populous enough to have three separate residential districts within its border. Rucker Hill is in the west part of the neighborhood and was one of the first residential neighborhoods in Everett.
There are some spectacular views of the bay and sound here. Everett Colby in turn was named for orator Edward Everett.
On November 26, , the Rucker Brothers transferred Three days later, "The Remarkable Document" was drafted, setting the terms by which the Rucker Brothers would donate half their remaining holdings to Hewitt in exchange for promises of specific development. The Company bought much of the Ruckers' land, taking them in as junior partners. Everett was officially incorporated on May 4, , the year the Great Northern Railway came to the town.
Both Hewitt and the Ruckers had speculated that James J. Hill would make the town the terminus of his railroad. However Hill continued the railroad along the shore of Puget Sound to Seattle. Although it succeeded in building the city, the Everett Land Company was a failure for its investors. The outside investors withdrew, and the Company's holdings were transferred to a new company controlled by Hill.
The Ruckers, who helped broker the deal, stayed in Everett and became leading citizens of the young city. Railroads and mines played a part in Everett's future. The mining community of Monte Cristo depended on a railway for supplies.
It was hoped that the railroad would cross the mountains and bring in traffic. For a while ore was smelted in Everett, then sawmilling and port activity commenced. A dozen steam riverboats were built in Everett for the Yukon gold rush. Several survivors of the Bellingham riots settled in Everett for two months, until they were beaten and forcefully evicted by a mob on November 5, Everett also was the site of the Everett Massacre of which was an armed confrontation between a mob, led by local Sheriff Donald McRae, and Industrial Workers of the World members.
Shooting broke out and at least five IWW's were killed and two in the Sheriff's mob were killed, though they might have been accidentally shot by others in their allegedly drunken group. Everett streets are named after each of the three founders. Parallel to Colby and Hoyt are avenues named for other investors, John D.
Rockefeller , railroad executive T. Newer portions of the city generally extend southward from this point for a distance of approximately 8 miles 13 km. According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of The climate of Everett is heavily influenced by marine air masses, which tend to moderate temperatures with seasonal variations much less pronounced than inland areas. Downtown is home to the government campuses of Snohomish County and the City of Everett, multiple high-rise office and residential buildings, as well as the Xfinity Arena at Everett , Everett Public Library and other city amenities.
The Everett historic district runs from around 8th Street to 25th Street, north to south and from Broadway to Grand Avenue, east to west. The district contains many old and stately homes, including the home of the former U. Senator Henry M. Jackson on Grand Avenue.
The Port of Everett includes both a deep-water commercial seaport and a marina with over 2, slips, which it claims to be the largest on the west coast of the United States. The park is on the north side of town, near the Snohomish River and Port Gardner. Before any development seen today, this verdant area was home to a major village of the native Hibulb peoples. The bluff hiking trail lends an excellent view of this landscape, and adjacent interpretive information relates the area's historical importance.
Legion Memorial Golf Course also offers a landscaped 18 holes bordering the Arboretum. Legion Memorial is a public course, and advanced tee times are recommended for the weekend. The Everett Farmers Market has provided locally sourced entertainment for nearly 30 years. These Sunday markets occur on Hewitt and Wetmore Avenues between 11am and 3pm. And each week features a festive collection of growers, processors, and artisans. Several concessionaires are also on-site, offering fresh and hot food.
Live music always provides a soundtrack to the strolling at the Everett Farmers Markets. New musicians take the microphone every week, adding an upbeat sense to the shopping.
Howarth is a small slice of urban getaway on the city's west side, overlooking Possession Sound part of the larger Puget Sound. The park features several amenities, including hiking trails, an off-leash dog park, and tennis courts. But its pinnacle feature is a concrete bridge that spans the railroad tracks for an excellent view.
Visitors can access this viewpoint from the parking area near Piper Creek or a smaller parking area off Olympic Boulevard. The trail quickly connects to the concrete bridge over the railroad tracks, leading to the panoramic viewing platform. Here, a spiraling staircase leads down to a small beach area.
The beach and viewing platform are some of the top places to visit in Everett to watch the sun fall behind the distant Olympic Mountains. Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest spans the entire Cascade slopes immediately east of the city, up to the Canadian border. One of the central adventure routes from Everett is Highway 2 , heading east toward Leavenworth.
Trailheads and scenic rest stops line this potentially busy highway passing through Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. Interested explorers can access Olympic National Forest from Everett with two ferry rides and a scenic drive across Whidbey Island.
Upon reaching the Olympic Peninsula, the national forest comprises only a tiny fraction of the wild public land to explore.
