Wow, I was just thinking of making a topic like this last night when I finished reading the book. It is a rougher, more painful process, but in the end, she is able to become a stronger person and stand up for herself.
Despite her sufferings as a child, in the end, she is happily reunited with Pedro, her lover. The moral the author is trying to communicate here is that there will always be a reward for people who suffer. If Tita had been a happy child and was treated well by her mother, then she probably would have ended up in the same place.
